We recommend 5/8-inch (16mm) to 3/4-inch (19mm) diameter for most tree swings. It should have a rated load capacity of at least 600lbs just so you can enjoy peace of mind. 

Get your measuring tape out to narrow down the ideal rope length. You want the swing height from the ground to be 18-24 inches. So, measure from the branch to the ground and subtract 18-24 inches. Then add 3-4 feet for knots/wrapping around the limb.

1. Tie a bowline (or double bowline) knot at each end of the rope to form a loop. One loop goes around the branch; the other connects to your swing seat.
