What is the weight and age limit on your swing sets and accessories?

Weight and age limits vary per product. If it is not otherwise noted on the product page, please refer to our standard disclaimer below. These are not weight ratings from the manufacturer, but are only designed to be a disclaimer for intended use.

Home playground equipment, also called residential equipment, is for use in a private backyard. It is for use by children between 18 months and 10 years of age only, and under 110 pounds. All SwingSetMall.com equipment which have part numbers ending in "R" are for residential backyard (home) use only.

Public, or commercial use playground equipment can be used in residential backyard settings, as well in school, park, day care center, and other public settings. This equipment is for use by children only, between the ages of 2 to 12 years and under 125 pounds. Commercial-grade equipment, both identical or similar to what we sell, can be found in parks and recreation areas throughout North America. While teens and adults often use this equipment in such settings with both safety and satisfaction, due to liability concerns, we cannot suggest or recommend the use of the equipment, parts, or accessories we sell for use by these age groups.

Products on SwingSetMall.com are identified either as "Commercial" or "Residential" beneath the product name and within the "Other Details" tab on the product pages.

See our Playground Safety page for more information.

Can an adult use your products?

Most products we carry are designed for children, however there are some commercial grade swing sets and accessories that can support use by adults. These products will typically specify whether they can be used by adults, otherwise we do not advise such use.

Do you provide installation for your products?

We do not provide any installation services for the residential swing sets and accessories. Our residential accessories are generally very simple to install. Most wooden swing set kits have pre-cut and pre-drilled lumber which makes assembly something most handy people are capable of putting together with the assistance of a helper or two. Otherwise a local handyman will certainly be capable of installing most residential swing sets and accessories.

When it comes to full commercial grade swing sets, playgrounds, and independent events, we can provide installation services. We belong to a network of playground installers and can work with ones in your area to provide installation for your equipment. If you are in need of professional installation for your commercial playground, please contact us.

What kind of maintenance do swing sets require?

Certain products may require special maintenance, but in general, you can use the following maintenance schedule recommended by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) for residential playgrounds:

  • Check nuts and bolts twice a month and tighten as needed.
  • Oil moving metal parts as directed by the manufacturer.
  • Check to make sure protective caps and plugs that cover bolt ends and ends of tubing are in place and tight. Inspect twice a month and replace as needed.
  • Check the condition of the equipment, looking for signs of wear and tear such as broken or missing components, bent pipes or tubing, and splintering wooden surfaces. Repair as necessary.
  • Check swing seats, ropes, chains, and cables monthly for deterioration and replace as needed.
  • Clean, sand, and repaint rusted areas with a non-lead-based paint, as needed.
  • Remove plastic swing seats in cold weather, if recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Rake surfacing periodically to prevent compaction and maintain appropriate depths.

For commercial playgrounds, we recommend reading through the more thorough maintenance schedule recommended by the CPSC for public playgrounds (found on page 18).

Do you sell replacement parts for Hedstrom, Rainbow, or other brands of swing sets?

Our swings and accessories are great for replacement on most swing sets, though may not fit all. We typically do not carry specific replacement parts for swing sets, unless it is a model of swing set that we currently offer on our website. Hedstrom and some other manufacturers have stopped producing swing sets or discontinued models so it may not be possible to find the exact part needed, but where possible our generic swing set accessories can be a great option for replacement.

Knowing the measurements of the parts you are replacing will arm you with the best knowledge to see if our parts are going to work with your current set. If you have any questions that are not answered on the product page, please contact our customer service team and we will do our best to assist you.

Why do some items not include hardware?

Many products we offer, such as slides, rock wall holds, swing hangers, and other accessories do not include mounting hardware and will need to be purchased locally at your nearby hardware store. There are two main reasons for this.

The first reason is because play decks, swing beams, and other wood thicknesses can vary in size to great degrees. For instance, some swing sets use a 4x4 swing beam, while others use a 4x6, which would affect the length of bolt you might use for swing hangers.

The second reason is to keep overall costs as low as possible for our customers. In addition to heavy hardware adding shipping expense, some customers may opt for stainless steel bolts or more expensive styles of hardware, such as "T-nuts" for rock wall holds. Others may already have the needed hardware if they are simply replacing accessories on their swing set, leaving them with extra hardware they paid for. So, while including hardware with many of our products may be more convenient in some cases, it can often add unnecessary expense.

Why are some items not sold in pairs?

It is sometimes assumed with many of our products that they come in pairs, when in fact they do not. This happens most commonly with swing chain, as the typical belt or flat swings do require two chains. However, because there are uses for odd numbers of chain, swing hangers, hand grips, etc. we typically sell most items individually. For instance, a tire swing will require three chains, or a disk swing would only need one.

While occasionally causing some confusion, this keeps costs as low as possible for our customers. On any item where it might be assumed that it comes in pairs, we list in the product whether it is sold individually or as a pair to clear up any confusion. If you are unsure whether an item is sold individually or as a pair, feel free to contact us and we'll be happy to answer your question.
